Challenge Extended

Wednesday 1st July 2009 - 12:26:07 PM

I realize that going green is hard work.  Or more accurately it just takes some extra effort.  I don’t usually shy away from something just because it’s more effort.  Actually, I welcome things that are more difficult just to push myself and those around me.  I want to be capable of enduring things even when it’s hard and exhausting.  I want to rise to the top and conquer Everest…figuratively…

Are you totally inspired??

That’s why today begins “trash free month”.  It’s the first of July, a new month and a perfect time to begin reducing the amount of trash this large family has.  It’s hard work, but it’s worth it, right?  God has given us this world not to abuse, but to care for, be responsible for, and to leave in good shape for our children to do the same.

Are you wondering where in the world I came up with this idea?

Tiffany has great ideas for being more “green conscious” over at her place:  Nature Mom’s Blog.

Challenge extended!!!

Will you accept the challenge to be Trash Free for the Month of JULY??  (Comment with your thoughts)

A lesson in Haiku poetry in preparing for Friday’s Homemaker Moments.

Haiku is a 17-syllable verse form consisting of three metrical units of 5, 7, and 5 syllables.  Meaning, only 3 lines are found in the entire poem:  One line with 5 syllables, another with 7 and the last one having 5 again.

Haiku-poems can describe anything, but you seldom find themes which are too complicated.  Reason #1 why I loves these poems  ome of the most thrilling Haiku-poems describe daily situations in a way that gives the reader a brand new experience of a well-known situation.

A great example is this Haiku

A giant firefly:
that way, this way, that way, this -
and it passes by.

by Issa

So, do you get it?  Make sense?  Your Haiku could be about our role as a homemaker, mom, wife, teacher, blogger, friend, etc.  I can’t wait to read them all.  Now go get your creative juices flowing and be back here Friday for some Haiku fun!!

That’s a HUGE challenge. We already recycle plastics and cardboard and put newspapers in the garden and flower beds for weed block and have a great compost pile going. But there is still alot of trash. So let me know how you do and we might try it next month. PS if you like organic and green living check out Mother earth news website very informative and inspiring.
