Frutopia

Continuing on with Fruity Pa-Tooty today guys and dolls!  In case you’re new this week, I’m not normally so giddy.  I truly just can’t get enough of the soaring temperatures, sun beating down while I sit outside, and the FRUIT.  We are going fruit-bonkers today and I betcha can’t guess what I will be using these for in the coming days???

wild strawberry

Let’s see…we have Marigold petals, frozen blueberries, blackberries and cranberries, and wild strawberries.  Quite a mixture indeed!   Ooooh, I can’t wait to tell you what I’m doing with these…but I will wait.  Be patient.   (Not you.  Me.)

In the meantime, throw out a guess- what do you think I could possibly use these lovely items for?

Today’s Fruity Pa-tooty item is one that I loathe.  It it a very time-consuming little project with a minuscule reward.  Much like the real thing.

Sushi.

Lot’s of work goes into those little bite-sized pieces of heaven and I am thankful to those Japanese men behind that glass shield at the bar that make it happen.  They make me very happy with the rice and the seaweed all wrapped around the fresh goodness.  Put a little wasabi on top of that badboy and I’m good. to. go.!

However, those Sushi chefs work very hard for one scrumptious bite.  Kind of like what I did in making this cute little dish..

Frushi!

Here’s how it works.  Peel a couple of bananas and tightly wrap a fruit roll up around each one.  Use a sharp knife to gently cut the banana rolls into half-inch slices and lay them on a plate or platter.  Carefully sprinkle sprinkles into the center of each banana roll.  (We used multi-colored sprinkles for fun and solid red sprinkles for the whole “caviar” effect.)  The kids loved eating them, but those were slippery little suckers.  I had a hard time keeping a hold of them while slicing and then the fruit roll ups began melting quickly.

Moral of the story?  When you make these, plan on eating them immediately.  Oh, and take a picture quickly to prove that you did it!

Have fun!!
