Homemaker Moments: Fruit

After a few “serious” weeks I thought we should go a little more light-hearted for Homemaker Moments. And being that it is fruity pa-tooty week, why not involve fruit? Today, give a little thought to what kind of fruit you are. Once you figure that out, leave a comment or a link to your own blog. Oh, and of course you are welcome to read about how fruity I am.
Not only is this one of my favorite fruits, it’s also kind of hard to find. You can’t find them in just any grocery store. Which leaves them to be a little mysterious- if you ask me. I don’t think I am the least bit mysterious, in fact I’m pretty normal and out front, which is exactly what you find when you peel a mango. It’s not much different than other fruits.
Like me.
Perfectly normal.
Deciding that I could identify most with a mango came with a little bit of research. Mangos are sweet tasting and remind me a lot of a peach (which ironically is my favorite fruit). Sweetness- pretty normal for a fruit and maybe I have a little sweet side.
(sshh…don’t spread that around though)
The outer layer is much different than the inside- also a fruity characteristic. My absolute favorite mango fact is that they grow in warm climates…usually near a beach.
GET OUT! I totally thrive most near a beach!!
Mangos require full sun and don’t survive in temperatures under 50 degrees. Uh, me too! When you see a mango think of me fondly and consider that summer time is the best time of the year! What else? Yes, and mangos ripen in June; I was born in June and I am completely “ripe” in June…ready for summer time that is.
So you see, the Mango is synonymous with Angie. Remember that the next time you buy a mango fruit.
What’s your fruit and why?

Okay, so this is an obvious and easy choice for me for many reasons: The Pineapple! The main reason? Because I am half-Hawaiian and while the pineapple is originally native to the southern part of Paraguay and Brazil, the first commercial pineapple plantation was started in Hawaii in the late 1800s making pineapples practically synonymous with the state of Hawaii!! Also, one of my dad’s nicknames for my mom was Pineapple (or Pine) and people always say that out of the five kids, I look the most like her.
The pineapple has a prickly, rough exterior and so do I. While sweet, the pineapple is also known as a highly acidic fruit; again much like myself. As children, our mom taught us early on that raw pineapple eaten without a sprinkling of salt will leave sores in your mouth. I as well (things I say or do) must be taken with a grain salt (because I am human and I do make mistakes…frequently…which may leave some sore). On the lighter side, the pineapple has a crazy crown and while my own “crown” is curly rather than spiky, it is often crazy!
I am The Pineapple!

ok, I like this theme, because as soon as I saw it, I knew my answer and it I got excited about it! For those of you who know me well, it won’t surprise you at all that I chose “PUMPKIN!”
First of all, the simple answer- I LOVE EVERYTHING PUMPKIN!” I once even made chili with pumpkin in it! Yummy!
Some pumpkin facts for me deeper answer.
Pumpkins are ready in October- that is their time……and that is my time too! I love, love, love Fall! Are there any places to live that have fall-like weather year around, because I am there!
They are also very useful. Not saying that I am very useful, but my heart’s desire is to be used in every way possible to glorify God.
Pumpkins have loads of Vitamin A and potassium. The seeds can be used to roast and eat and they are quite yummy too! the insides are used for many delicious fall dishes. The flowers are edible and pumpkins are also used for feed for animals! Native Americans also used pumpkin seeds for medicinal purposes and dried strips of them to use for mats!!!! The pumpkin has lots of purpose! So there ya go- I long to be used and for my life to have great purpose for the glory of God.
Plus, pumpkins are yummy and I love to bake in the fall!
fun fact- The largest pumpkin pie ever made was over five feet in diameter and weighed over 350 pounds. It used 80 pounds of cooked pumpkin, 36 pounds of sugar, 12 dozen eggs and took six hours to bake.
