Confession

I have a confession to make…I’ve given up!

Remember this post about washing dishes?    Well, this is what I’ve resorted to.

Yes.  That is a group of PLASTIC cups with each of my family member’s names on them.  Okay, I saw this TV show once about this family from Arkansas (which is where I am originally from), the Duggars.  They have like 18 children or something.  Neat family!  But each day they label the drinking cups so that each person has the same cup for an entire day.

What a brilliant idea!  (except they have a dishwasher and I don’t)  I just tweaked it a little to fit our needs.

I mean, if you’re all honest, you’ve all done this too for family gatherings and maybe at church camp, but that was just so that Aunt Maria didn’t drink out of cousin Jeff’s cup,  or so that you could set your cup down and leave it all day long, then come back and still have a perfectly good drink!  (yuck…why did I ever do that?)

So don’t judge me!!  (just kidding- I know that you wouldn’t do that…just feeling a little guilty I guess)

Anyway, I would love to think that I am a conservationist, that I “go green”, and that I save the rain forests by being mindful of my waste on a daily basis but I must confess that- I’m not!

I want to be- don’t get me wrong.  I could make lots of excuses, but it boils down to…I’m just lazy and tired, and SICK of doing dishes by hand.

I tried.  I purchased the cute rubber gloves from Wal-Mart to keep my hands from cracking after doing an hour’s worth of dishes each night.  I tried the separate dish tubs that you set on the counter to help with the volumes of dishes we have.  I have been patient, I have been understanding, and I have washed SOOOO many dishes in the last 2 months.

I’m giving myself a break.  I NEED a break!!

Just so you know, we are going to use this one package of plastic cups, cutlery, and plates and then I promise to go back to being GREEN!

Recycle, reduce, reuse will be my motto…

…next month…

…or the next (it really depends on how many times I can wash out these cups and use them again)  Hey!  Did you hear that, I’ll be REUSING the plastic cups.  That counts right?

Sorry to disappoint.

Isn’t my artwork cute though?

Do you have an HEB were you live? At our HEB they have earth friendly plastic wear and plates and things. You might look into something like that if you’re wanting to be a little more green, but not wanting to wash dishes every day. I don’t blame you! I don’t think I could do it either. We had a house when we first got married that didn’t have a dishwasher and I had a hard time keeping up with. There were only 2 of us.

ok, you are too funny with this! I totally understand….I haven’t had a dishwasher……well, EVER! I know I don’t have 5 kids but I have three, a husband and we have people into our home for dinner, dessert and/or coffee about 3 times a week, sometimes more!
I have been through seasons of using paper plates for lunch, but I found that I really enjoy using my plates, glasses and cute mugs too much so I just wash away! I wash as I go with each meal. After meals, if I have time to wash them right then, I do and it doesn’t take that long….much quicker than letting 3 meals of dishes pile up. If I don’t have time, I atleast fill the sink with hot soapy water and let them soak until I have time to wash them. Hope that helps- happy dishwashing!

……BTW, since we just moved- I am now going to experience the joy of an actual dishwasher for the first time!! i have never been more excited to go buy dish soap! :)
Hang in there- you’re tough- you can do it! ;)

I’ve always wondered why they don’t sell plastic cups in variety colors. That way you don’t have to write on them – you just claim a color.

Seven starts to be a lot of different colored plastic cups, but I think they are made in that big of a variety. Might save time!
